Welcome to Year 5!
This term our topic is Stars and Stripes.
In English, we will be looking at suspense and mystery texts. We will be learning how to write spine-chilling stories that keep the reader on the edge of the seat! We will also look at the techniques J.K Rowling uses to keep all of year 5 (and the adults) so engaged and interested in Harry Potter.
In Maths, will be focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages. Do you know the link between all three? We will be learning how to solve Maths problems and prove our answers. Can you convince each other that you're correct?
In Science, our topic will be light. How does light travel? We will explore what items are a source of light and which reflect light. Why do we see things the way that we do? Let's investigate together.
In Geography, we will be learning about Rivers and North America. Do you know how many countries there are in North America? Can you name all the states of the United States of America? Do you know the differences? We will discover the answers this term.
Finally, in preperation for our exciting Victorians topic next term, we will be reading Street Child and the sequel Far From Home by Berlie Doherty. Can you imagine what life was like for the children in these stories? Can you picture a world with no iPhones, cinemas or internet!? This was their reality and we're going to immerse ourselves in their world.
