Body proportions

Leonardo Da Vinci was not only an artist but also a scientist and he was very interested in anatomy of the human body. He explored and represented proportions some of which can be seen in his picture called the Vitruvian Man.

arm span = height

height = 10 head lengths (measured from chin to forehead)

Investigate whether this statement is true. You could use a tape measure to measure in cm or something physical to represent the length such as string or a scarf.

You will need to conduct this investigation scientifically, taking measurements from several humans and collating the data in a table. You may decide to represent the data in a graph.

Do you notice any other patterns in the measurements that you could investigate?

Another statement to investigate is:

foot length = the distance from the crook of the elbow to the wrist
