School Direct is, just as the name suggests, a direct route into teaching. At Meryfield Community Primary School we are offering the opportunity to train as a teacher with the School Direct Salaried Programme.
The features of this programme are as follows:
Meryfield is a very diverse school and, although English is the main language spoken, thirty nine other languages are spoken by our children and their families. We are proud of our diversity and believe that the achievements, attitudes and well-being of every pupil and family matter.
The Headteacher and senior leadership team place a high importance on continuous professional development for all their staff and provide a programme of specific in-house training linked to the school’s development plan, as well as staff having opportunities to attend specific courses linked to their individual needs. The school is very much part of the local community and is well supported by parents/carers and governors.
Over a number of years we have established a successful working partnership with the University of Hertfordshire and have been praised by the University’s Visiting and Moderating Tutors for the quality of our mentoring, training and the overall support we provide for trainees on the School Direct programme and for NQTs.
Our professional mentor is the Deputy Headteacher, an experienced practitioner, who has developed the school’s ITT policy. She is non- class based so she can actively develop high quality teaching and learning throughout the school and liaises closely with the team of teacher mentors who are themselves experienced practitioners and have had training in mentoring. Together, the professional mentor and team of mentors, assure high quality training for students.
Meryfield recently achieved the Inclusion Quality Mark and the visiting inspector commented on our professional development programme and on the high quality of support and guidance the school offers to students and NQTs, as well as its ongoing coaching programme for all staff.
As a result of Meryfield’s excellent track record in initial teacher training (ITT), we were one of the first 100 schools, chosen by the Teachers Development Agency, to be a Lead School in the School Direct Programme.
This year we are offering one place on the School Direct Salaried programme 2014/15 Successful applicants will follow a PGCE with QTS course and be trained predominantly within our school environment.
