Computing
Meryfield Computing
Our children, in each Key Stage, have a dedicated Computing and E-Safety lesson for a minimum of one hour per week. The three strands of Computing (Digital Literacy, Information Technology and Computer Science) are embedded in their daily curriculum.
At Meryfield, the foundation of our Computing learning is built around the scheme 'Teach Computing. However, we complement our knowledge, skills and understanding using a combination of other schemes and programmes to ensure success and coverage. We use: Purple Mash, Project Evolve, Discovery Espresso and Barefoot Computing. This well thought through plan ensures we are giving our children a detailed and thorough learning experience alongside the National Curriculum.
Our Computing overview highlights a spiral curriculum allowing the children to revisit core components in different year groups. This ensures the children have a solid foundation of knowledge and are given opportunities to revisit and deepen prior learning.
The children are assessed in a variety of ways including spot marking and feedback alongside our marking policy, and our teachers are trained in adapting their practice to meet achievable and high outcomes. Our plan gives all of our children an opportunity to explore a variety of devices. Throughout our lessons, we run a continuous focus on E-Safety as we recognise the importance of online safety and awareness.
