Meryfield RE

At Meryfield we follow the scheme Jigsaw RE for Religious Education (RE), which has been adapted to conform to both the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus with some adaptation to reflect our pupils’ background.  We believe RE is a vitally important component of children’s personal, social and spiritual development. Developing an understanding of their own and others’ worldviews underpins the growth of empathy and respect. RE is taught as a discrete subject across both KS1 and KS2 for approximately one hour each week.

At Meryfield, we teach children that everyone views the world differently, and that our perspectives are shaped by our experiences, upbringing, culture, and the things that are important to us. These influences shape the choices we make and the unique way each of us understands the world. Through the teaching of Jigsaw RE, we ensure that all worldviews studied are treated as equally valid and valuable. For this reason, we use the term worldviews to describe both religious and non‑religious standpoints, so that no preference is implied and all perspectives are represented fairly.
