Welcome to Year 1.

In Autumn term, our topic will be Me and My Own World
In English, we will be reading engaging texts and writing in a range of styles including non- fiction texts and narrative. We will cover a variety of grammatical features and will continue to build clear sentences with ambitious vocabulary.
In Maths we will be learning about
- Positional language, directions and ordinal numbers.
- Number to 10
- Subitising
- Addition and subtraction
In Science, we will be learning about different materials and their properties.
In Computing, we will be learning to create digital pictures using a range of tools.
In Art, we will be using a range of materials to create spirals in a variety of ways.
In Design Technology, we be exploring and creating stable structures.
In History, we will be looking at our local past and the history of film and TV.
In Geography, we will be looking at weather and seasons across the year.
In PSHE, we will be exploring being me in my own world.
In RE, we will be focusing on the religion of Christianity. Our enquiry questions are:
- What do Christians believe about God? Christianity
- What gifts might Christians in my town have given Jesus if he had been born here rather than in Bethlehem?
In PE, we will be developing our fundamental and team building skills.
In Music, we will be looking at music pitch, tempo and highs and lows.

Phonics Screening Check
During the summer term, all Year 1 children complete the statutory Phonics Screening Check (PSC). The Phonics Screening Check will consist of the child reading 20 real words and 20 pseudo-words (not real words).
